The National Gallery of the Faroe Islands and Landsverk sign contract with Sp/f Búsetur for the expansion and renovation of the museum.
Listasavn Føroya, in collaboration with Landsverk, has signed a contract with the contractors Sp/f Búsetur for the expansion and renovation of Listasavn Føroya. The project marks an important milestone in the effort to strengthen the facilities for art, learning, and visitor experiences at the National Gallery.
The expansion and renovation will ensure the museum’s physical facilities for the future and create better conditions for visitors, artworks, and staff. The project includes a comprehensive modernization of the existing special exhibitions building, as well as the establishment of new areas that will provide improved opportunities for exhibitions, learning, and activities.
With the signing of the contract, the project now enters a new phase in which construction work will begin. Listasavn Føroya will remain open to the public throughout the entire period. The museum invites visitors to experience an innovative reinstallation of the permanent collection, as well as a series of events that allow our guests to experience the collection in new ways.
The Faroe Islands Parliament (Løgting) unanimously adopted an act supporting the construction project, which is also funded by the Augustinus Foundation, the Louis-Hansen Foundation, the Villum Foundation, and the Municipality of Tórshavn. The construction project is being carried out in close collaboration between the National Gallery and Landsverk.
“The contract is a major and welcome step in a project we have been working on purposefully for a long time. We look forward to close cooperation with Landsverk and Sp/f Búsetur to create the best possible facilities for art and for visitors,” says Solveig Hanusardóttir Olsen, Director of Listasavn Føroya.
The construction is expected to be completed in spring 2028.
