Organization

The National Gallery of the Faroe Islands is the country's art museum and the principal museum for art in the Faroe Islands. It is run with support from the public, primarily the Faroese Parliament.

The museum's day-to-day management is handled by the museum director. The overall responsibility is handled by a board appointed by the Ministry of Culture (the chairman), Listafelag Føroya (Faroe Islands Art Society), Føroysk Myndlistafólk (Association of Faroese Artists) and Tórshavn Municipal. The members of the board are elected for four years, corresponding to the Municipal term.

The board appoints the director of the museum, who is appointed for a period of five years with the possibility of extension for three years.

The National Gallery of the Faroe Islands is a self-governing institution, driven by public funds, primarily from the Faroese Parliament.

The current board consists of:

Niels Christian Nolsøe, chairman (Ministry of Culture)
Árni Winther, vice-chairman (Faroe Islands Art Society)
Annfinn Brekkstein (Tórshavn Municipality)
Hansina Iversen (Association of Faroese Artists)
