Listasavn Føroya will have a new director
Karina Lykke Grand lands a major position in Denmark.
The director of the National Gallery of the Faroe Islands, Listasavn Føroya, Karina Lykke Grand, has got a new job as of 1 April. After five years at Listasavn Føroya, she has agreed to take over as director of the Hirschsprung Collection in Copenhagen.
“I got an opportunity that I couldn't say no to. Although I am happy, it will also be very sad to leave Listasavnið, as it has been the most wonderful workplace with an extremely committed staff and with strong support from the board. Together with the colleagues, we have raised the number of visitors, dissemination efforts and exhibition profile, and with the museum's impending building expansion, it will be an even more exciting place to work in the years to come”, says Karina Lykke Grand.
The future workplace for Karina, Den Hirschsprungske Samling, is a state art museum in Copenhagen with a 19th-century collection, which Karina Lykke Grand knows very well from her previous jobs as a museum inspector, researcher and teacher in Denmark. In the position, she will work to develop new exhibition and communication ideas and secure a new building framework for the site. All experiences that she takes with her from Listasavnið, where she has worked on similar tasks.
Niels Christian Nolsøe, chairman of the board of Listasavnið, says about the director's departure:
“With her strategic mindset and strong visions for exhibitions and communication, Karina has renewed the museum's profile and made a big difference to our external image. Listasavnið has become significantly more visible and open, which is reflected in an almost tripling of the number of visitors during her time. The museum reaches out to more people, both children, young people and adults, which is the role of a main museum. Karina has also succeeded in securing funding for the modernization of the museum, and thanks to this effort the museum can open in new and improved settings in 2026. Karina will be missed and the board will now meet in the near future to start the process for to find her replacement”.
Karina Lykke Grand herself has no doubts that she will return home to Denmark with many richer experiences and acquaintances.
“Faroese art and the country's wonderful artists will always have a special place in my heart, and I look forward to our paths crossing again. I very much hope that Faroese people will also stop by Den Hirschsprungske Samling and say hello when they are in Copenhagen, likewise I will also visit the Faroese House in Copenhagen often. Our little family has made friends and relationships for life in the Faroe Islands, which we will take great care to preserve”, says Karina Lykke Grand
Until a new director is appointed by Listasavnið's board, Dagmar Malena Winther is constituted as temporary responsible.
