The Spring Exhibition 2021
The Spring Exhibition is an exhibition held each year at the National Gallery of the Faroe Islands. It is organised by the Faroese Society of Visual Arts. The exhibition is open until 16th May.
This year’s Spring Exhibition features a rich diversity of art. There are large installations, in which you can explore all the different objects. There are small, highly-detailed works, works knitted and woven from wool and linen, and even a sculpture constructed from old videotapes, accompanied by a mesmerising audio/video work. The exhibition also features graphic drawings, photographs, oil paintings and a 12-metre-long table, laid for dinner and filled with symbolic objects. Though, the exhibition is curated for visitors to experience the artworks separately, there is also a common thread or frame of reference. For example, several of the works are about space. There are both large spaces we can walk into and small spaces we must contemplate at a distance. Several works focus on textile. They are woven, knitted and composed not only of traditional materials such as wool and linen, but also less traditional materials, including latex, Mylar and videotape.
The 2021 Spring Exhibition features works by: Alda Mohr Eyðunardóttir, Brandur Patursson, Elin Josefina Smith, Jóanes Nielsen, Jón Sonni Jensen, Kirstin Helgadóttir, Lydia Hansen, Maibritt Marjunardóttir, Ole Wich, Ragnhild Hjalmarsdóttir Højgaard, Rannvá Holm Mortensen, Guðrið Poulsen, Tummas Jákup Thomsen and Vagnur Dam. Some of them are acclaimed Faroese visual artists; some are taking part for the first time.
