A new work for the collection!
The National Gallery of the Faroe Islands has acquired a painting by Ruth Smith entitled 'Thunder in the Air, Vorupør' from 1939.
Ruth Smith (1913-58) painted a number of works featuring Danish motifs while studying at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen.
Karina Lykke Grand, Director of the museum, says: “For some time the painting had been deposited at the museum, and recently we were given the opportunity to purchase it. Ruth Smith painted this picture of the oppressive weather while on a summer trip to Vorupør in North Jutland. Notice the particularly intense colours and the power of this painting.”
Several works by Ruth Smith feature in the museum’s permanent collection and in the special exhibition ‘Home’.
