Bent Restorff (1922-1979) was an active artist who helped shape the Faroese artistic landscape in the post-war period, alongside many of our most famous artists. His paintings decorate many homes around the country, and especially his expressive landscape paintings and motifs from Tórshavn characterize his art.
Bent Restorff was self-taught, but he was inspired by the many Faroese artists who returned to the Faroe Islands with new expressions after completing their education at the academy in Denmark. His travels abroad are also reflected in many of his works. In his later years, he found his artistic voice through abstract and colorful works. Bent Restorff passed away at just 58 years old. This exhibition describes his exploratory artistic path as a self-taught artist in the Faroe Islands.
