The Weather Diaries Retold
9 April 2021 - 2 August 2021

This spring The Weather Diaries will be retold in the foyer at the National Gallery of the Faroe Islands. The Weather Diaries is an exhibition that took shape from 2012-2014, when the artist duo Sarah Cooper and Nina Gorfer travelled throughout Iceland, Greenland, and the Faroe Islands and staged and photographed the work of 12 fashion designers. Through their work they explored the roots of Nordic fashion and told its story visually. The result was the exhibition The Weather Diaries which travelled worldwide.

In the Faroe Islands Cooper & Gorfer collaborated with designers Barbara í Gongini and Guðrun & Guðrun. The artworks are strong stories referencing cultural heritage and history. The photographs examine how contemporary design interprets and reinterprets traditions, and which role aesthetics play in the perception of identity.

From 9. April to 2. August you can experience The Weather Diaries retold in six large photographs and smaller installations of wool by Guðrun & Guðrun in the foyer at the National Gallery of the Faroe Islands.

Enjoy this film about The Weather Diaries and meet the 12 fashion designers that were in the original exhibition.
