HEIÐRIK’s work spans a wide range of media and forms of expression within the fields of visual art, film and music. This exhibition invites you to enter the artist’s workspace and studio and to go on a behind-the-scenes journey of his creative universe.
For a number of years, HEIÐRIK has been collaborating with Faroese musicians, helping them develop their visual identity and image. In close collaboration with the artistes, HEIÐRIK devises expressions which listeners and spectators associate with the musicians. The exhibition features HEIÐRIK’s working methods, showing visitors how he succeeds in transforming music into visual expression. Visitors will also learn about the artistic identity that HEIÐRIK creates for the artistes he works with. This finds expression in original drawings, graphic works, outfits, styling and music videos. Three particular music videos, one of which is HEIÐRIK’s own, have been selected for the exhibition.
Visitors will gain insight into an artistic process that was not originally intended to be seen. The first part of the exhibition is a close encounter with the process. The wall is adorned with storyboards for music videos and the artist’s notes. There are props on the floor, while the empty chair in front of the desk in the middle of the room suggests that the artist is busy on a project and has just got up. The second part of the exhibition features the artistic product – a selection of music videos – on a large screen, framed scenically by heavy theatre drapes.
The exhibition was devised and designed by the theatre designer Sámal Blak and Heiðrik á Heygum himself.
