ST. OLAF'S EXHIBITION
28 July 2021 - 22 August 2021

Welcome to the St. Olaf’s Exhibition at the National Gallery of the Faroe Islands. This year the title is Grey Houses Are Green.

The Faroe Islands Art Association organised the very first St Olaf’s Exhibition in 1948. The event went on to become an important and traditional contribution to the annual national festival.  Each year there is a different curator. This year the Art Association invited the Faroese artist Hansina Iversen to curate the exhibition. Hansina Iversen invited anyone with an interest to submit works of art. From the submissions she selected a diverse range of works for the exhibition.

This year’s exhibition is a greeting to the renowned Faroese artist Ingálvur av Reyni (1920-2005). The exhibition features six paintings by Ingálvur av Reyni, some of which have not been exhibited for many years. The title Grey Houses Are Green comes from a text by the Faroese author Karsten Hoydal on the subject of Ingálvur av Reyni’s paintings at a time when his style changed from being figurative and colourful to abstract and expressive. Ingálvur av Reyni hoped that Karsten Hoydal’s text could prepare visitors for what they came to see.

The exhibition is accompanied by a leaflet featuring information about the works.

Enjoy!
