Traditions
Faroese cultural history is full of rich and exciting traditions, and artists have skilfully portrayed the many peculiar customs and symbols that enrich the country. The Faroese chain dance, in which people wear the distinctive national costume, is both a historical and a contemporary tradition. During the chain dance they sing songs and long ballads about the ocean, heroic deeds, myths and legends about trolls and rocks. The dance consists of special steps that are represented by rocks on the floor: two steps to the left and one to the right. Do you recognise the steps and the rhythm?
