Rocks and Stones
This section features works that portray rocks and stones in every possible guise: felted, soft ‘rocks’ made of Faroese wool, paintings of stones in the landscape and paintings of the black-stained, rocky ridge west of Tórshavn. Have you noticed that Faroese rocks often have numerous spots in shades of yellow, green, blue and black? The Faroese fables, legends and myths abound in tales of trolls, hags and ‘hidden folk’ (huldufólk) and their lives in the rocks. That is probably why you must ask permission before sitting on one of the large rocks – just in case it is inhabited by supernatural beings. Are there also mythological tales about rocks where you come from? And are there many large rocks in the landscape?
