Wool and Knitting
Historically speaking, in the Faroe Islands it was always imperative and important to utilise local resources from both the ocean and the land – fish and sheep. The sheep’s wool was and continues to be carded and used for knitting and clothing. Wool and knitting also feature as themes in the work of more experimental artists such as Randi Samsonsen who indicates that knitting has so much untapped potential. It can be used for creating sculptures. You can also see a selection of the countless distinctive patterns in Astrid Andreasen’s knitted work, Babyboom which features several sweaters knitted together. Are there any knitting traditions where you come from?
