In the early morning the darkness of night has not quite loosened its grip of the village.

We are looking across the roofs towards the high mountain of Nólsoy. It is dark and edgy like the houses in the foreground. The house with the gable belonged to Steffan Danielsen’s grandparents, and he has painted this view several times.

The scenery gives the artist an opportunity to render the gables and roofs of the houses as an elegant geometrical composition. At the same time he allows us to look inside and in the light of the room we curiously register the curtains, pot plants, a jug, a loaf of bread – and a smoking candle?

The cosy atmosphere is however combined with a feeling of being left out.
