Autumn (1999), Tróndur Patursson
Tempera on canvas, 260 x 194 cm.
The black shapes on the coloured background change it into a space of colours.
The inspiration is the reflections of steep mountainsides in the sea. The structures of the crags have become calligraphic shapes, while colours like yellow, red and blue reflect aspects of the sea in changing light.
The black shapes stream upwards like the lava out of which the Faroe Islands were once born. In the unlimited space of colours, this stream represents the basic force of the Universe.
If you want a more physical experience of Cosmos, you may visit the glass/mirror installation The Blue Deep elsewhere in the museum. Please, ask the attendants of the museum.
