Luncheon on the Grass with Manet & Friedrich (2011), Edward Fuglø
Acrylic on canvas, 205 x 284 cm.

The Faroe Islands in a global world is the main theme in Fuglø’s art, always with a twinkle in the eye. The national flag and the costumes, the birds, steep cliffs and the green turf: about as Faroese as it gets.

A subtle message about power and powerlessness makes up the content in the relation between the three persons - she naked, one man with a ram’s head, the other with satyr-horns on his forehead.

As the title implies, World Art is also present in the picture: E. Manet’s version of carefree gathering in nature and the disturbing mountain peak from C.D. Friedrich.

At the same time these venerable masterpieces are jokingly transformed into a modern language, that of advertising, posters and signs.
