Pictorial artists in the Faroe Islands are organised in an association "Føroysk Myndlistafólk".
The Spring Exhibition
The Faroese Society of Visual Arts arranges the annual "Várframsýningin (The Spring Exhibition). This censored exhibition normally opens in the art gallery on the first Saturday in March. The judges are three artists selected at the annual general meeting of the Art Society. Their task is to make a critical judgement of each work and to demand a high standard of artistic performance. The committee of judges is selected for a period of 3 years, each year 1 retires and is replaced by a new member. The aim of the Spring Exhibition is to display the best of Faroese pictorial art, to raise the standard and to act as a challenge for the artists.
